Turkish clarinet master Husnu Senlendirici for a celebration of Turkish and Balkan Music. Turkish-born Gypsy clarinet player Husnu Senlendirici is revered as a pop star in his native homeland. In the late 90s his Gypsy-funk outfit Laco Tayfa recorded and toured internationally with Brooklyn Funk Essentials. Since then Senlendirici has collaborated with Al Di Meola, tabla legend Zakir Hussain and Bulgarian clarinetist Ivo Paposov. Says the prolific New York trumpeter and bandleader Frank London, In Turkey, the clarinet is their saxophone and Husnu is Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis and Maceo Parker all rolled into one. He is constantly pushing the envelope in any musical setting, raising the bar whether playing pop, improvisation, progressive folk or dance music. Expect heart wrenching melodies, lavish ornamentation and off-beat improvisation against complex drum rhythms an East-meets-West fusion of the highest order.
